That is normal. The wire/cover plate interface is designed the same way as OEM. The outer insulation has a small break at the insertion point where the wire is molded/sealed into the cover plate. The internal conductor is still protected, and the seal is made at the cover plate. It is not a defect unless bare copper is exposed or the wire is loose/damaged.
